In our coming out party last year, we rewarded followers by picking more winners than losers (55 percent of 171 games), especially with our best bets (63 percent of 53 selections).

This, however, is a new season, and past success only goes so far. With a few early games out of the way, we're ready to get started. One of our primary rules is to never ask a bad team to win (or cover) for you. In picking home team underdogs Rutgers and Temple this Saturday, we hope we're not falling into that trap. But we feel assured that both are improved enough to make good showings.

Our top choices this week, however, are the mismatches, which often present the best opportunities. TCU and Texas Tech are on the right side of those mismatches and look like easy winners. Otherwise, we'll proceed with caution.
