Louisiana-Lafayette coach Ricky Bustle, in his third season with the Ragin Cajuns, hopes the 2004 season resembles the last five games from last year instead of the first seven.

After going 3-9 under Bustle in his first season in Lafayette, the Cajuns opened 0-7 in 2003. Louisiana-Lafayette then bounced back and won four of its last five, including a 57-51 four-overtime thriller at Middle Tennessee in the season finale.

The Cajuns finished their Sun Belt schedule 4-2, second in the league behind North Texas. Consequently, Bustle signed a two-year contract extension in February through 2008.

With 44 letter winners and 12 starters returning, expectations are high this year.
