COACH AND PROGRAM

Life had been more or less ideal for Barry Alvarez and fans of the Wisconsin football team for quite a while, but the last few years have provided more bumps in the road than usual. From 1993 to 1999, Alvarez directed the Badgers to three Rose Bowls -- Wisconsin won all three -- and three other bowls. And while the Badgers have been to three bowls in four years since their last trip to Pasadena, the bloom has somewhat left the rose, so to speak.
