Say it ain't so, Mo! But yes, Maurice Clarett squandered a run at the Heisman Trophy and what figured to be a brilliant college career in the months prefacing last season. It was a meteoric fall for Clarett and a months-long distraction for OSU. In 2002, he was a flash point for the Buckeyes' national title surge, setting OSU freshman records with 1,237 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns.

By July 2003, however, Clarett was under investigation by the NCAA for receiving improper benefits and by Columbus police for wildly exaggerating the values of items he reported stolen from a car.
