He returns 10 offensive and six defensive starters from the 11-3 Capital One Bowl champions. His crew is generally regarded around the country as Top 5 material. Another Top 10 recruiting class is in tow, not that he'll employ it much this year.
So, why does Mark Richt speak of "going back to the basics?"
COACH AND PROGRAM
Don't get the fourth-year coach wrong. Richt savors the pedestals shipped in from around the country-SportsIllustrated.com and CBSSportsline ranked the Dawgs No. 1 at the conclusion of spring drills, and several other polls placed them in the top five.
Richt is especially conditioned to such notoriety. He spent 15 seasons as an assistant at Florida State, where Top 5 rankings were practically birthrights, before landing in Athens in 2000.
