COACH AND PROGRAM

Alabama coach Mike Shula wrapped up his first spring as the Tide's top man in March, a designation that usually belongs to coaches who have yet to pace the sideline for their new employer.

Not so for Shula, who led Alabama to a 4-9 mark last season, a disappointing season that was nonetheless unavoidable given the harsh NCAA sanctions handed down more than two years-and two coaches-ago. For Shula, the son of legendary Baltimore Colts and Miami Dolphins coach Don Shula, stability has been welcome.
