Finally, Tar Heels No. 1

The Tar Heels remain dead last nationally in total defense this week, but in something of a consolation, that apparently hasn't caught the attention of shoppers. For a third consecutive year, UNC ranks first in merchandise sales by universities. The school collected around $3.6 million in royalties off of roughly $107 million in merchandise to finish ahead of Michigan, Tennessee, Texas and Florida. Maybe it's time to buy a few extra linebackers. Coach John Bunting isn't quite ready to pull a powder blue bag down over his face when his defense takes the field, but the former NFL defensive assistant isn't exactly proud, either. "It kills me when I see us play like that," he said of giving up 615 yards of offense to North Carolina State last week (the Wolfpack averaged 8.9 yards a play). Bunting said part of the problem is "playing too many players." Silly us, we thought maybe he was playing too few players.
