Defensive diversity carrying Terps

The Terrapins have made a habit recently of starting the season like, well, Terrapins. Could this season end up like last, when Maryland lost two of its first three, then peeled off 10 wins in its final 11 games, including a bowl victory over Tennessee? Probably not.

Still, if the Terps rebound as hard as they did a year ago, a lot of the credit will go to defensive coordinator Gary Blackney.

"Our defense really is playing better than our offense is right now. In the last two games they've been dominant," said Coach Ralph Friedgen, widely regarded as one of the top offensive coaches in the country.
