Sun Belt ready for conference play

The MAC's stunning success against nationally ranked teams this week means one thing for the Sun Belt -- bigger guarantees. And Sun Belt schools have proven that they don't mind playing the big boys. Seven of the eight Sun Belt schools have played schedules that rank among the top 41 in the nation. North Texas has played the nation's toughest schedule, while Louisiana-Monroe is tied for second and Middle Tennessee is tied for sixth.

Indians' coach Steve Roberts sounded like a man trying to believe that his team's 54-7 loss to Tulsa last weekend wasn't as bad as it looked. In fact, he said as much after watching video tape of the game.

"Things snowballed on us," he said. "We've got a better football team than the one that played Saturday night. Like I said, I think our players are eager to go out and prove that."
