For the Sun Belt Conference, September is the cruelest month. Road games against big-name programs. An occasional struggle against a Division I-AA foe. For these teams, however, it's all a prelude to conference play, which begins to get serious over the next couple of weeks.

After a winless opening week and a bit of a rebound in Week 2, the Sun Belt had only one team win last week. Soon enough, however, they'll turn to beating on each other.

Sure, the Indians' two victories have come against Division I-AA opponents. That still doesn't change the fact that ASU, at 2-1, is off to its best start since 1986. Coach Steve Roberts isn't going to discount his team's wins. "We've beaten two teams that everybody expected us to beat, and that's a great feeling to be honest, because that doesn't always happen," Roberts said. "We have a lot of room for improvement in every phase, and we've got to continue to work extremely hard. But I'm confident we can be very competitive in this league."
