Groh annoyed by 'arm-chair geniuses'

Virginia coach Al Groh lashed back this week at critics who wondered why he didn't play last season's backup quarterback, Marques Hagans, in relief of struggling freshman Anthony Martinez in the Cavs' 31-7 loss Saturday at South Carolina. Taking an apparent shot at critical reporters and unsatisfied Virginia fans, Groh mocked the "arm-chair geniuses who know what we should have done" by admitting that Hagans had barely practiced last week because of an injury.

Groh then refused to disclose Hagans' injury, which is basically the point: How can the "arm-chair geniuses" be expected to make the right observations when Groh intentionally keeps them in the dark?

Groh was just following his long-held practice of not sharing with the media injury news. To this day, he hasn't specified exactly what is wrong with defending ACC Player of the Year Matt Schaub's shoulder, or when he truly thinks Schaub will be able to return.
