Linemen, receivers stealing offensive show
Small-school receivers have been impressive so far this year, while prospects at both OL and DL are coming on strong.
After a brief hiatus, my weekly personnel points are back with a look at the players making big impressions so far this season.
OffenseDan Buenning, OG, Wisconsin -- Last week: Off; Wisconsin rushed for 208 yards in a 28-12 win over Northwestern on Oct. 23
Goes 6-4¼, 315 and is a tough, tenacious guard with a street-fighter mentality. Buenning can pull out and trap, stays on his feet and has been a key element along the line so far for the undefeated Badgers. He teams with the athletically-gifted Jonathan Clinkscale to form the best guard tandem in college football. Jason Campbell, QB, Auburn -- Last week: 11-for-22, 234 yds, 1 TD; 2 rushing TDs in a 35-14 win over Ole Miss
Quickly moving up the ranks among senior quarterbacks after some stumbles by guys like Kyle Orton, Charlie Frye, Andrew Walter and Dan Orlovsky. Campbell is completing 65.9 percent of his passes this year and has 14 TD passes with only three INTs on the year. At 6-4¼, 226 with great athleticism he is very mobile and will be very interesting to watch when all-star games and individual workouts come along. Campbell entered the season with just an OK grade but impressive workouts could get him into the late-first or early-second round area.
