'Canes on unprecedented draft roll
Miami has produced talent at an amzing level over the last few seasons, while play in the trenches has been key all over the country.
The 'Canes are on an unprecedented roll in terms of producing NFL first-round draft choices, dating back to 2001 when middle linebacker Dan Morgan (No. 11, Carolina), defensive tackle Damione Lewis (No. 12, St. Louis), wide receiver Santana Moss (No. 16, NY Jets) and wide receiver Reggie Wayne (No. 30, Indianapolis all went in the first round of the draft.
In 2002, the Hurricanes sent five first rounders into the NFL. That group included offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie (No. 7, Minnesota), tight end Jeremy Shockey (No. 14, NY Giants), cornerback Phillip Buchanon (No. 17, Oakland), safety Ed Reed (No. 24, Baltimore) and cornerback Mike Rumph (No. 27, San Francisco).
