South Carolina's Downey scores 30 as No. 1 Kentucky suffers first loss
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Top-ranked Kentucky found out it's got some growing up to do. And college basketball will most likely find a new No. 1.Devan Downey scored 30 points and South Carolina sent Kentucky to its first loss of the season 68-62 on Tuesday night.
Down-ing No. 1
Devan Downey scored 30 points against top-ranked Kentucky on Tuesday. He did most of his damage off the dribble, which led to 23 of his 30 points.

• Devan Downey scored 30 points as the Gamecocks beat the No. 1-ranked team for the first time in school history. It was the second straight game a player has scored 30-plus against the top-ranked team (UConn's Jerome Dyson scored 32 against then-No. 1 Texas on Saturday).
• Downey took 28 of the Gamecocks' 64 shots as the team was playing without two of its best three players (Dominique Archie and Mike Holmes).
• South Carolina won despite finishing with only six assists.
• DeMarcus Cousins scored a career-high 27 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for Kentucky, whose first No. 1 ranking since the 2003-04 season will likely end after this week.
