Matt Doherty might finally get his chance to redeem himself after being abruptly dispatched at North Carolina nearly two seasons ago.

Doherty is emerging as one of the leading candidates at Tulsa to replace John Phillips, who resigned last month.

Multiple sources told ESPN.com that Doherty has influential backing in the Tulsa community. Doherty hasn't spoken officially to the administration but has been in contact with intermediaries.
