Team preview: Oral Roberts
Blue Ribbon Illustrated previews the 2004-05 college basketball season, exclusively on Insider.
Oral Roberts was on the national radar last season because of a couple of individual accomplishments.
Because those two individuals return in 2004-05, the Golden Eagles are considered one of the Mid-Continent Conference favorites to make the NCAA Tournament.
Coach Scott Sutton can't wait to get things under way. ''I think with the guys we have back, there's more expectations than in any of my years here,'' the sixth-year coach said.
''I'd be honest in saying that we'd be disappointed if we didn't get the opportunity to go to the NCAA Tournament this year. I really like this team.''
Last year, Tutt and Green did something that no Division I freshman duo has done since 1930-31 when they were voted to the all-conference first-team. Tutt and Green were the nation's leading freshman scoring tandem and ended up second and third, respectively, in conference scoring.
''They had unbelievable years for freshmen,'' Sutton said. ''What amazed me was their consistency. We had a long year last year and I thought they were going to hit a wall. But they never did.''
Sutton isn't expecting Tutt and Green to duplicate their freshman season contributions.
