COACH AND PROGRAM

Virginia Military Institute's first season in the Big South Conference didn't quite work out like the Keydets had hoped.

Injuries -- five players sidelined for a total of 44 games -- wrecked their debut. During December, four of the five projected starters were out. Now all-conference forward Raydee Skipworth and steady guard Richard Little have graduated, but Bart Bellairs is wearing a smile these days. Back-to-back solid recruiting classes are paying dividends. Suddenly, the Keydets are even deep.
