Seemingly as quickly as former Trojan Derek Fisher's catch-and-release buzzer-beater helped the Los Angeles Lakers on their run to the NBA Finals, first-year Arkansas-Little Rock coach Steve Shields became a straight-shooting savior for the Trojans in 2003-04.
After inheriting a roster with one full-time starter returning, Shields led his first squad to a first-place finish in the Sun Belt's East Division and a 17-12 record overall.
