Furman was one of the surprise teams in the Southern Conference last season. The Paladins' top returning scorer had averaged only 5.2 points on a team that won 14 games in 2002-03, there was little experience to rely upon, and it looked like Furman was headed toward the basement.

Furman was one of the surprise teams in the Southern Conference last season. The Paladins' top returning scorer had averaged only 5.2 points on a team that won 14 games in 2002-03, there was little experience to rely upon, and it looked like Furman was headed toward the basement.
Coach Larry Davis wasn't so sure about that. Using a cast of newcomers-many of them freshmen-Furman cobbled out a solid year, and now eight of the top 10 players are back. Three were selected to the SoCon All-Freshman team.
