Team preview: St. Francis (N.Y.)
Blue Ribbon Illustrated previews the 2004-05 college basketball season, exclusively on Insider.
After earning a share of the regular-season title in the NEC, St. Francis was looking forward to a long postseason run. Surprise!
The Terriers certainly were when seventh-seeded Central Connecticut State upset them in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.
"That was the one downer," said coach Ron Ganulin, who recorded his 200th career victory during the season and was voted the NEC Coach of the Year. "It was a great year. We had no real stars and the team chemistry was great. It was a nice group to coach."
The group lost two key contributors in guards John Quintana (15.2 ppg) and Mike Wilson (13.1 ppg), who were the top two scorers, respectively, and leading rebounder Eric Thompson (7.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg).
Wilson and Thompson were both seniors, but Quintana opted to transfer instead of play his final season, and Ganulin said that was probably the best decision for both sides.
