Nobody expected the shocking events that transpired in Waco during the infamous summer of 2003.
New Mexico transfer Patrick Dennehy was murdered and Baylor teammate Carlton Dotson was charged with the crime.
Later, coach Dave Bliss tried to cover up NCAA rules violations by plotting to portray the deceased as a drug dealer. Bliss resigned on Aug. 8, barely more than a week after his assistant, Abar Rouse, made secret recordings of the shameful scheme.
While you can't compare the tragedy the Baylor program had to endure with anything, it's certainly worth pointing out that the Bears' successful rise from their extreme adversity was shocking in its own right.
