For the first time in four years, UC Irvine will enter the 2003-2004 campaign without the burden of great expectations. After three consecutive 20-win seasons that included a pair of Big West Conference regular-season crowns, the Anteaters tumbled to an 11-17 mark last year and failed to qualify for the conference tournament.
COACH AND PROGRAM
For the first time in four years, UC Irvine will enter the 2003-2004 campaign without the burden of great expectations. After three consecutive 20-win seasons that included a pair of Big West Conference regular-season crowns, the Anteaters tumbled to an 11-17 mark last year and failed to qualify for the conference tournament.
The departure of seven lettermen, including the team's three leading scorers, has left coach Pat Douglass' squad with no returning double-digit scorers and just four players who have ever worn a UC Irvine uniform.
