Team preview: Idaho State
Blue Ribbon Illustrated previews the 2003-04 college basketball season, exclusively on Insider.
Idaho State ended years of losing, posting a winning record last season. But the Bengals did more than just nudge above .500 (15-14 overall), they gained some long-sought after respectability from conference foes, finishing tied for third in the Big Sky, and winning in the first round of the conference tournament.
Now the Bengals are trying to take last year's success to a higher level. To the university's credit, the administration has been patient with coach Doug Oliver, an excellent tactician who took over the tough chore of winning in Pocatello. After a couple of rough seasons, Oliver-a former Stanford assistant under Mike Montgomery-appears to have the Bengals on solid footing.
