Top tourney schools of the last 20 years
But success is fleeting. Today's UNLV squads are lucky just to make the tournament. And in the last five years when 16 different schools have filled the 20 Final Four slots no team's dominance has extended beyond a season. When you consider the entire span of the 64-team era, however, a number of schools have compiled a consistently strong record. The question is: Which of these schools have been the best tourney performers over the course of the last 20 years?
As far as identifying the top school, the answer is easy. By every measure, Duke has been the best school of the 64-team era. Based on overall record alone, Mike Krzyzewski's Blue Devils get the nod as the top tourney performer. Here are the overall records of the top 10 schools (out of 55) with at least eight appearances in the Big Dance:
