The 13 top freshman this season

This year, there are fewer freshmen playing lead roles than in the last few years. More outstanding juniors and seniors have stuck around, and most of the nation's freshmen are playing supporting roles.

However, there are gems and future stars in that crowd. Here is my list of the 13 top freshmen in the land:

Jeff Green, Georgetown
This kid will be the Rookie of the Year in the Big East. He is terrific and very productive. Green has good size, is very skilled and knows how to play. Georgetown uses him in the middle of its offense, and Green can drive any big man from the high post. He is also an extraordinary passer for a big man, and he can step away and hit facing up, or post and score or get fouled. Green is averaging almost 14 points and over 7 rebounds, and he is a very good offensive rebounder. He blocks almost two shots per game, and he shoots 50 percent from the floor. Green is a good one, and he has a lot of room to get better.
