Some terrific defenders on the West squad created the most buzz at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl practices on Wednesday.
While the West team is loaded with talent, linebacker Travis Beckum (Oak Creek, Wis.) is generating the most talk. The Wisconsin commit has been extremely impressive and might be the best overall athlete in the game. Coaches have been amazed with his speed, hitting ability and quickness off the ball. He delivered one hit in practice that had coaches doubting whether the recipient would get up. Beckum wowed his teammates by throwing a pass 75 yards in the air and unleashing a 60-yard punt.
Defensive lineman Roy Miller (Killeen Shoemaker, Texas) has also been turning heads. Miller looked fantastic in Wednesday's workouts and has played himself into my top 100. He will decide between Texas and Oklahoma and probably make his announcement during Saturday's game.
