MINNEAPOLIS -- Justin Mercier led Miami of Ohio to its first Frozen Four appearance, scoring short-handed and power-play goals in the RedHawks' 2-1 victory over Minnesota Duluth on Saturday night in the NCAA West Regional championship.
In the national semifinals April 9 in Washington, the RedHawks (22-12-5) will face the winner of the Midwest Regional final Sunday between Bemidji State and Cornell.
Mercier scored twice in the second period.
Cody Reichard made 25 saves, allowing only MacGregor Sharp's late goal with Bulldogs goalie Alex Stalock off for an extra attacker.
