News: Pettitte filed for free agency on Thursday, the Yankees' official site reports.
Spin: Pettitte is still contemplating retirement after winning all three postseason series-clinching games for the Yankees in 2009. If he returns, it would almost certainly be with New York, who would gladly welcome him back on a one-year deal. His decision could impact whether the Yankees aggressively target John Lackey in free agency. |
