Positions' supply outweighs demand

Fred McGriff has taken his share of grief over the years for those Tom Emanski instructional video endorsements. But at this stage of his career, he should be grateful every time they pop up on cable at 1:30 a.m.

When the alternative is standing on a street corner holding a sign that reads "Will DH for Food," a man needs all the exposure he can get.

McGriff, 40, needs three home runs to pass Lou Gehrig on the all-time list and nine to become the 20th player in history with 500. Just two years ago, he hit 30 homers and knocked in 103 runs for the Chicago Cubs. He's a quiet, efficient pro in the Harold Baines mold, looking to wind down his career as a productive piece for a winning club.

And he can't find a job.
