PHOENIX -- You can learn quite a bit hanging out in the lobby of a $300-a-night desert hotel. Like $12.50 is a lot for a shrimp salad sandwich. Or five hours on a marble floor can put your lumbar vertebrae in a world of hurt. Or in the immortal words of Maria Muldaur, "Cactus is our friend."
Nothing newsworthy happened at the general managers' meetings at the Arizona Biltmore this week, other than a major development on the steroid front and a Dan Miceli signing. But that didn't prevent GMs from talking trade, discussing free agents with agents, and speculating about what will occur the rest of this winter.
Baseball Insider surveyed 15 major-league executives in Phoenix on six big-picture Hot Stove topics, and here's what they had to say:
