Coaches at Villanova figured they had their next point guard until the Montreal Expos selected Delino DeShields 12th in the 1987 draft. Basketball was his first love, but he signed with Montreal, and 13 major league seasons later, he retired with 463 steals. DeShields' family benefited financially from his signing with the Expos -- and that decision is now paying off in other ways. "I asked why he gave up his dream," says his 17-year-old daughter, Diamond. "His answer was that baseball gave the best chance to support his relatives. I'm fortunate to not have that pressure, and it's helped me follow my own dreams." A 6-foot-2 wing at Norcross (Ga.) High, Diamond is one of the top basketball prospects in the class of 2013. This summer, she'll play for a third straight FIBA U-17 gold medal. And she has already committed to play college ball at North Carolina -- with zero chance of the Expos stealing her away.
