Nine foreign athletes who made Title IX shine
There's no catch-all formula for developing top female talent around the globe. But given the level of competition and exposure that U.S. universities offer -- and let's not forget about a great education -- it's no surprise that so many foreign athletes jump at the opportunity. Long before Russian hoopster Svetlana Abrosimova (at right, with the Seattle Storm) led UConn to the 2000 national championship and Jamaican sprinter Veronica Campbell-Brown was blazing a trail at Arkansas a few years later, the playing fields forged in large part by Title IX had already proved to be fertile ground for cultivating foreign stars. Just ask Annika Sorenstam and these eight other women who've made their mark at every step along the way.
