Chichi Scholl reaches quarters

BAD GASTEIN, Austria -- Chichi Scholl of the United States defeated sixth-seeded Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania 6-3, 6-4 to reach quarterfinals at the Gastein Ladies tournament on Thursday.

The 190th-ranked Scholl will play Ksenia Pervak of Kazakhstan, who beat Sarah Gronert 6-2, 6-3.

Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium defeated last year's finalist Patricia Mayr-Achleitner of Austria 7-6 (4), 6-3.

The second-seeded Wickmayer will face Yvonne Meusburger, who defeated Dia Evtimova 6-2, 6-3.

Seventh-seeded Alize Cornet of France and eight-seeded Johanna Larsson of Sweden also advanced to the quarterfinals.

Cornet defeated Sacha Jones of Australia 6-3, 6-2 and will play Estrella Cabeza Candela of Spain, who beat Dutch qualifier Richel Hogenkamp 6-4, 6-3.

Larsson beat Jill Craybas of the United States 6-2, 6-3. She'll play Mandy Minella of Luxembourg, who downed fourth-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
