Former Wisconsin forward Jarrod Uthoff is free of many of the transfer restrictions he once faced from Badgers coach Bo Ryan -- and he is taking advantage of that freedom.
According to a report from IowaPrepSports.com, Uthoff plans to visit Marquette -- Wisconsin's chief in-state rival -- "sometime this week." He has already made an official visit to Iowa State, and plans to visit with Florida in the next two weeks.
All three schools -- along with the entirety of the Big Ten and Atlantic Coast Conferences -- were listed among those restricted from permission to contact Uthoff in April, when he submitted his initial transfer request to the Wisconsin athletics department.
After a subsequent firestorm, which included confusion over the status of Uthoff's appeal and an appearance by Ryan on "ESPN's Mike & Mike in the Morning," Wisconsin processed Uthoff's transfer and agreed to grant contact permission to any school outside the Big Ten.
Since his appeal, Uthoff, a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has also made an official visit to Creighton.
It is customary for schools to block players from transferring within their own conference, as well as to in-state rivals and yearly opponents. Ryan defended the initial bans because it would be possible for Wisconsin to play any ACC opponent in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Badgers will begin a home-and-home series with Florida this fall.
The Marquette-Wisconsin rivalry dates to 1917, has been played annually since 1957, and will continue in 2012 at the Eagles' home Bradley Center in Milwaukee.
