Thanks to Coco and Anna, we just saw an interesting weekend with a few trades, giving us something timely to discuss in fantasy baseball. At this point, there isn't a whole lot left to happen. The major free agents have found homes, with a few exceptions (Bengie Molina), the big-name tradable commodities have been moved (enough with Manny and Tejada) and even when it comes to Roger Clemens, there's not much news to report. The World Baseball Classic? Let's just say it doesn't matter to fantasy owners much, unless someone gets hurt. Go ahead Barry, sit this one out, whatever the reason.
There are still things to keep an eye on, but they aren't exactly things discussed at the water cooler. If you're doing a draft this week -- hey, someone out there might be -- you might be wondering about whether Joey Gathright and Matt Murton are worth selecting, among others. Well, they might be, but their situations still need a bit more clarity. They need to play. If they don't play, how can they help your team?
Baseball in mid-January is lull time. Winter meetings are over, and the athletes realize they have one more month to go before the grueling spring training. You know, the hardship of going to a very warm place to stretch a lot and swing a bat occasionally. Fantasy owners don't have much to do in January either, except prepare. It's a great time to do this, though, and get a jump on others.
