ATLANTA -- Chris Young played five innings in an extended spring training game Thursday in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The action came eight days after Young was forced to depart a Mets game at Citi Field after one inning with the right quadriceps strain.

Young went 2-for-2 with two walks and a sacrifice fly.

Assuming Young feels OK on Friday, he should begin rehab games with Triple-A Las Vegas at some point this weekend.

Young is eligible to return from the DL next Friday, when the Mets open a 10-game homestand with a series against the Atlanta Braves.
