MILWAUKEE -- What does Ruben Tejada need to do to get back to the majors?

"I want to hear about quality at-bats," Terry Collins said Sunday morning, a day after Tejada officially was taken off a rehab assignment and optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas, making him a minor leaguer for the first time in two years. "I want to hear about the fact his first-step quickness is back.

"He's not Jose Reyes, but this guy had great instincts to the ball. I want to make sure I hear that's back, that he's getting to baseballs, he's getting the good read off the bat -- in a tough place to play. So if he's getting it there, I know he's getting ready."

Since joining Las Vegas, initially as a major leaguer rehabbing from a quadriceps injury, Tejada is hitting .118 (2-for-17).
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
