Mets will ensure Harvey can start ASG

June, 26, 2013
CHICAGO -- If NL manager Bruce Bochy selects Matt Harvey to start for the NL in the All-Star Game, Terry Collins said the Mets would adjust Harvey's pitching schedule to ensure he could throw an inning.

Harvey next is due to pitch Friday night against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field. His other first-half starts are scripted for July 3 against Arizona, July 8 at San Francisco and in the first-half finale July 14 at Pittsburgh.

Because the Mets have an off-day the week before the All-Star break, Collins said he would move Harvey's last first-half start to July 13 on regular rest if Harvey is due to start the July 16 All-Star Game.

"Of course. I don't think there's any question," Collins said about adjusting the schedule to accommodate an All-Star starting assignment.

Collins was not as committal on how he would use Harvey at the end of the first half if the right-hander merely was on the squad but was not going to be named starter.
