Bobby Parnell tossed a scoreless, 12-pitch inning for Class A St. Lucie on Monday, walking one batter, who was erased on a double play. Parnell is on the disabled list after experiencing numbness in his right middle finger. He was diagnosed with clotting.
Terry Collins can foresee Parnell being activated by the weekend series at Houston.
First, however, the manager wants Parnell to pitch in a cooler climate. So Parnell's rehab tour should take him to Triple-A Buffalo or Double-A Binghamton before he is activated.
Parnell sat between 94 and 97 mph during an appearance in extended spring training, and Mets brass wanted to see him repeat throwing at that velocity in the Florida State League before moving the reliever north.
As for wanting to see Parnell in a cooler climate, Collins said: "Darn right, because if that finger is affected by the cold weather, that's an issue."
