Mets 'unlikely' to trade for Emaus

April, 19, 2011
Brad Emaus' days with the Mets -- in the majors or minors -- appear done.

Emaus, as a Rule 5 pick, is currently on waivers. If another team claims him, that organization would assume responsibility for keeping Emaus on the major league roster for the remainder of the season.

The more likely scenario is Emaus clears waivers and is offered back to his former club, the Toronto Blue Jays, for $25,000 -- half the price the Mets paid to draft him.

At that point, the Mets could work out a trade with Toronto in order to keep Emaus and place him in the minors. However, a team insider said it's "unlikely" the Mets would try to retain Emaus.
