Jason Bay may return from a season-opening stint on the disabled list for Tuesday's series opener at Citi Field against the Houston Astros.

Bay, who suffered a left rib-cage strain the final week of spring training, played in an extended spring training game Friday. He is due to appear for Class A St. Lucie on Saturday and Sunday, after which he would be activated from the DL if he has no ill effects.

"He's feeling better," Terry Collins said. "... He's been swinging. He's been hitting. He's been throwing. He's been running. He's done everything. Now it's just some game at-bats. He's going to get four tonight, I hope, and four tomorrow and see how he feels."

Collins said "in a perfect world" Bay would be activated Tuesday, although he noted, alluding to the Mets' recent issues, "right now it's not really perfect."
