"Tomorrow I'm going to start going outside, play catch and do some things like that -- not running yet," said Beltran, who was shut down with left knee tendinitis. "They've got me hitting in the cages, but nothing more than that."
Beltran said he "feels like 60 percent better than I felt a week ago."
"And I'm happy with the results," he added.
Asked how much time he might need in right field to prepare for the season, considering he has not appeared in a major league game there in 11 years, Beltran said: "Well, it's going to be an adjustment for sure. I mean, my concern right now is that in order for me to play the outfield, I have to make sure knee feels better for me to move around out there. In my heart, I want to go out there and be with the guys and try to do what I need to do to get ready for the season. But, at the same time, I have to be smart about this. We all have to be smart because I don't want to rush myself to take the field and then take a step back in the progress."
As for being ready for the April 1 season opener, Beltran added: "I would love to be there for Opening Day, and I'm shooting for that for sure. But, at the same time, we're being careful with this. I'm being careful. And I want to make sure that when I'm in there, I'm in there."
