Prince Amukamara was expected to be able to return in early October at the latest.

It sounds like the Giants may have to wait a little longer.

Tom Coughlin said Amukamara is a "ways away" on Wednesday morning.

He ran sprints on a side field while the Giants practiced in preparation for Sunday's game against Arizona.

The rookie said afterward that he felt soreness in his left foot, which was surgically repaired in early August. But that soreness is to be expected.

Amukamara was able to run straight ahead "without any problems" on Wednesday, which he wasn't able to accomplish that last week. He hopes on Friday to be able to cut and turn sharply.

As for when he thinks he can return, Amukamara says some days it feels like he'll be back in "two or three weeks" but "other days it doesn't."

The Giants’ first-round pick was originally slated to return either at the end of this month or in early October, according to an 8-to-10 week timetable for his recovery.
