One New York Giant who was enjoying himself to the fullest on Tuesday was Osi Umenyiora.
"This is wonderful man," Umenyiora said. "This is awesome. I'd love to be a part of this for as long as I possibly can."
Umenyiora has one year left on his contract at just under $4 million. But he wanted a raise prior to this season, badly enough that he refused to practice at the start of training camp. He also still views himself as a starter in this league and Jason Pierre-Paul is now the starting right defensive end opposite Justin Tuck.
Umenyiora was asked if winning a Super Bowl and going through a parade makes him want to come back. He said right after beating the Patriots that he wants to remain a Giant but that it was up to the team.
"Of course! Look at this," Umenyiora said as he looked toward some of the approximately 40-45,000 fans on hand at the pep rally. "We can win again. But you know, it’s a business."
Umenyiora plans to continue celebrating his second Super Bowl win for a while before beginning to think about his future, which remains in the Giants' hands.
"We are going to enjoy this one, we are going to love every minute of it and then the business will take care of itself later," he said. "Ain’t no calming down, I’m partying for a month straight."
When asked about the chances of him returning as a Giant next season, Umenyiora said to ask the Giants.
"I don’t know, you have to ask them that," he said. "I am still under contract here so at the end of the day they will have to make that decision, it is not going to be on me."
