DALLAS -- Baylor coach Art Briles was asked about new defensive coordinator Phil Bennett and how the former SMU coach is fitting in with the Bears.

Bennett, who was 18-52 in six seasons as SMU's head coach, brings a wealth of coaching experience to Baylor and his attitude has excited Briles.

"He and I coincide so much on philosophy and belief in how to treat people, how to make people accountable," Briles said. "He's got one thing money can't buy, and that's experience. He's got a lot of good experience on the defensive side of the ball. He's going to have an answer for everything. He's got a plan."

Briles stressed that more than the X's and O's, Bennett's coaching style and approach is making an impact.

"He's extremely accountable as a coach, as a person, and his players are going to be that way," Briles said. "And it's really, really been a lot of fun."

Bennett has coached a lot in this region. He was the defensive coordinator at Texas A&M in 1995 and 1996 and had the same post at TCU in 1997. He was DC at Kansas State for three seasons before taking the SMU job. And he's been in charge of the defense at Pittsburgh for the past three seasons.
