TCU coach Gary Patterson was pleased that the Frogs were able to fill some needs on their teams. He specified those as offensive lineman, wide receivers and safety.

"That’s one of the things we’ve always done is assess who we have," Patterson said on ESPNU Wednesday afternoon. "It’s like a corporation. You lose a couple, you have to sign some to replace them."

The Frogs signed 24 players and they were split evenly between offense and defense. TCU signed five wide receiver and four safeties, showing how important those spots were to Patterson and his staff.

Waxahachie wide receiver LaDarius Brown is one of the headliners. He was No. 95 on the ESPNU150 and a firm commitment to TCU for a while now. He gives that offense another playmaker with speed. Brandon Carter, from Euless Trinity and a four-star recruit according to ESPN.com also signed a letter of intent with the Frogs. He was verbally committed to Oklahoma, but the Sooners wanted him to play defensive back and he wanted to play wide receiver, so he's staying closer to home.

TCU signed three ESPN.com three-star offensive lineman as well. Patterson was quick to mention how pleased he was about his quarterback signees as well, some of which may end up at other positions. But Patterson noted that Trevone Boykin put up some impressive numbers at West Mesquite his senior year and is a true dual-threat QB. (He rushed for 1,799 yards for 30 touchdowns and passed for 2,930 yards with a 60.7 percent completion rate.

Patterson said the Rose Bowl win and the move to the Big East helped his 2011 class, saying it "solidified things."

We had 18 or 19 commtiemts going into the middle of the season, we picked up five players that changed their minds," Patterson said. "It will make a big difference down the road that kids know we’re in an automatic qualifying conference. Being able to go in front of a lot more TV sets is a big deal to these kids. And knowing that even though you don't want to lose any ballgames that if you do lose one ballgame it doesn't count you out from being [in a BCS bowl] if you win the Big East."

Patterson said that earlier in his tenure at TCU, they lost some players because they "couldn't push them over the edge to come to TCU" even though they liked the school.

"I think the Rose Bowl and the Big East have done that, have pushed them over the edge where we've really finished out our class," Patterson said.
