75th Cotton Bowl facts and figures
MVPs: LSU reciever Terrence Toliver was the offensive MVP, while LSU freshman CB Tyrann Mathieu was the defensive MVP.
Better late ...: The 7:33 p.m. kickoff and the Jan. 7 date both set new standards for latest in Cotton Bowl lore.
Many happy returns: Texas A&M's Coryell Judie ran straight into the Cotton Bowl history books with the opening kickoff. His return of 69 yards was the second-longest to open the game behind Houston's Earl Allen, who had a 98-yard return vs. Boston College in 1985. By halftime, Judie had 167 return yards, breaking Allen's record for most return yardage in a game. He finished with 197 on seven returns -- the second-most return yards in A&M history.
Trifecta: LSU's Terrence Toliver caught three TD passes, tying the game's mark set by Keyshawn Johnson (USC) vs. Texas Tech in 1995. It was LSU's first three-TD game since Dwayne Bowe did it vs. Kentucky in 2006.
First-half fireworks: The 45 points scored by the two teams itied the 1985 and 2009 Classics for most combined points in the first half.
Second thoughts: LSU's 21 points in the second quarter points tied two other schools for the Cotton Bowl mark -- Notre Dame (1978), Rice (1938).
Century mark, again: Texas A&M running back Cyrus Gray reached the 100-yard mark for the seventh consecutive game, gaining exactly 100 yards on 20 carries. It's the second-longest streak of 100-yard games for A&M since Darren Lewis did it in 10 straight games in 1988.
