Set your DVR for "Pony Excess"
I was fortunate to see the premiere of this film last week. I won't get into too many details so I don't ruin it for anyone, but trust me when I tell you that you don't want to miss it. A few things:
* Director Thaddeus Matula and his staff did a sensational job of digging up footage. I was told that film officials spent two straight weeks at the WFAA studios going through the archives. It shows in the film.
* After the two Dallas newspapers went back and forth in breaking news, Dale Hansen blew the top off the program just before it was handed the Death Penalty. That is a memorable interview and it's captured well in the documentary.
* Check out the clips from former assistant coach Steve Endicott. They are pretty revealing and interesting.
* There's nothing that's particularly new, but the film does a wonderful job of taking the viewer through not only the SMU saga, but how things were in Dallas in the 1980s.
So don't miss this documentary. And once you watch it, feel free to comment on this post and let us know what you thought.
