Special teams woes hit SMU in third
But, an 83-yard kickoff return by TCU's Jeremy Kerley to the SMU 13-yard line set up a quick touchdown to answer and gave TCU the lead back, 21-17. TCU then made it 28-17 and it all fell apart later in the quarter when SMU punter Matt Szymanski lofted a nice punt that bounced inside the 10, but shot back the wrong way, beyond the SMU coverage team. Szymanski hustled to down the ball at about the 20, but he kicked it out of frustration and drew a 15-yard penalty that set the Frogs up at their own 36. It punt wound up being a net of 4 yards.
TCU scored again for a 35-17 lead and that is likely all she wrote. The Frogs are physically too much for SMU, which generated 47 yards of offense in the third quarter.
