SMU leads 7-0 thanks to Pedron, penalty

DALLAS -- SMU quarterback Kyle Padron scampered 13 yards to the end zone on the opening possession of the game to give the Mustangs a 7-0 lead over Washington State.

It appeared the drive was going to stall at midfield after Padron's pass was incomplete on third down, but Washington State saftey Deone Bucannon hit SMU receiver Keenan Holman in the head and was called for unnecessary roughness, giving the Mustangs a first down.

SMU kept the ball 4:40 on what was a 56-yard drive after a nice kickoff return by Darryl Fields.
